Second-screen experience for football fans

GAME offers live commentary, key stats and moments, player battles and insightful information during live football matches.

My Role

Along with STREAM, I joined Fantastec to lead the design of their platforms for sports fans. GAME was already a live service, and needed to be extended to its full potential.

Design Audit

GAME was up and running, with thousands of users using the site weekly during football fixtures. My initial proposition was to run a heuristic evaluation of the site in order to identify usability issues we could fix as we built new features.

The Re-design

Most critical problems encountered during the evaluation were related to lack of consistency, wrong affordances, navigation and discoverability of new content. On the following months I redesigned these items and started structuring the component library.

Second-screen UX

GAME was used as an extension of a live match. Users had a range of motivations for wanting to be on top of information during a game, but it was evident the experience should work seamlessly across all devices, mobile-first.

Results & Learnings

GAME is now paused until next Premier League season, but all new designs proved effective on user testing, and during the 3 months I was in the project the ongoing improvements brought a significant increase in the traffic of the website.
